2025 Art of War

This annual call-and-response exhibition paired the work of veteran and active-duty military writers with responses from civilian and veteran visual artists, creating a powerful dialogue between written word and visual expression. The 2025 exhibition featured live readings, original artwork, and a month-long gallery exhibition celebrating shared stories and creative connection.

This call-and-response exhibit paired the work of veteran and active-duty military writers with responses from civilian visual artists, creating a powerful dialogue between written word and visual expression. Now in its fifth iteration, the 2025 exhibition was held at Hi-Desert Artists in Yucca Valley. The exhibition opened on December 6, 2025, with an opening reception from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. featuring live readings by veteran writers at 6:00 p.m., and ran through the end of December.


Writers included Barry Scanlan, Norm Miller, James Spaulding, Patrick Wallis, Lawrence Markworth, Omar Columbus, Nadia Clark, and Delissa Chase, with responding visual artists including veterans Mark Micchio and Barry Scanlan, and civilians— Judy Wold, Anna Stump, Wendell Hunt, Bonnie Kopp, Ron Therrio, and Philip Miller.
